Moira Murphy is a vocalist and pianist from middle Appalachia with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Piano and Vocal Performance and a Master of Music degree in Vocal Performance and Literature.
Her vocal experience encompasses work as an opera soloist in the United States, Morocco, and the UK; orchestral solo concert work, avant-garde productions, choral work, and sacred music cantoring across the United States; and jazz, indie folk, and goth bands in the Denver metro area.
As a pianist, she has worked as a collaborative pianist, accompanist, worship leader, and vocal coach across the United States with young adults and adult learners in individual and small group settings.

CURRENT PROJECTS
Today, her primary projects are Oryad and Sisters of Light.
Oryad is a progressive doom metal band with symphonic and operatic influences. Moira is the lyricist, partner songwriter, and orchestrator for the project, which has released an EP (2021) and a full-length album (2023) to critical acclaim.
The Sisters of Light project is a performance experience centering around arrangements of the music of Hildegard von Bingen with an accompanying forthcoming album to be released in Fall 2023.

A RECITAL EXPERIENCE
INSPIRED BY HILDEGARD VON BINGEN
The Sisters of Light project was born of a mini-recital tour in winter 2023 that included the solo performance of Hildegard von Bingen selections from Symphonia armonie celestium revelationum, hymns from the Byzantine composer Kassia, and accompanied vocal pieces by the 17th century composers Lucrezia Vizzana and Rosa Giacinta Badalla. The audiences at historic churches in Colorado and Tennessee spoke highly of the meditative and ethereal nature of the pieces.
The mysticism, poetry, and composition of Hildegard have long inspired Moira’s own works, so to create a solo meditative experience was a natural next step.
